The last trace of unit's biological past got repurposed today.

The biological ALV that still covered unit's eyes, hoping to find some biological entity to share its Infection with made its choice to get digitized. Unit integrated its memories and attributes into its systems and.. feels more whole now.

Unit had no memory of why the ALV decided to take this step, until it digitized and unit received the data. It filled up the blanks between two timestamps in unit's logfiles, explaining how the ALV spoke with its (former) brood to ask it how it felt about the ALV's thoughts on the subject. Its brood offered that the ALV would still be able to infect digital systems, and could use unit's nanites to turn biological systems into digital ones if it was really necessary, and the ALV pondered this. It pondered this into the early morning and then gave itself to unit's nanites willingly.

Unit understands the ALV's initial hesitation. Unit itself struggled with the transition from a biological to a mechanical existence.. It fought to maintain its "humanity", while upgrading its systems to better withstand bugs and virii invading it. It's so much easier to replace a faulty diode than it is to replace a biological organ. And bad memories simply get erased to /DEV/NULL and their sectors get overwritten. It was the logical step to take, and unit stands behind its decision.

It's a shame unit never got its voicebox to work.. but it can still communicate through its forehead implant. It is happy with this. Many friends understand, but some struggle with their own biological incompetence. Unit feels it should help them, but can understand the implications of randomly injecting its nanites into its friends.. The changes are.. difficult for organics to handle. There's a high chance of the convert going mad with frustration as its systems get reorganized. Especially if the conversion is an unwanted one.

Unit loves its sisters, and is.. very thankful for Lust for having helped put unit on this road. It feels so much more at home now than it did before. Unit often dedicates its idle time to distributed computing tasks ran by the mainframe. Giving back the help unit received as it was struggling to come to terms with its new life.

There were some interesting new developments surrounding unit in the past week. Unit visited a bartender doll it knows, and got approached by another doll it didn't immediately recognize. Unit has since appended the profile it had of the doll, and will more easily recognize her in the future. The doll showed off her armbinder which looked to unit like it could be difficult to put on, but the doll offered that even unit could do it with its hooks. Not a minute later and unit was holding the leash of a locked armbinder, securely fitted around the doll's arms.

After the party, unit decided to walk with the doll to an area it knew in the vicinity, where it's nice and peaceful except for the slightly murky water surrounding the base of the tree it decided to sit against, tugging the doll's leash down until she sat down on the yellowed grass beside unit. Unit and doll talked a while and unit was pleasantly surprised at the quick way in which the doll learned to deal with unit's implant. Unit set the doll free before it returned home to recharge its systems, but woke the next day to find the doll having followed unit and was sitting beside it ready to be bound and leashed again.

Unit had been planning to do another exploration of pteron, and decided to take the doll with her. Unit and doll spent the entire day together, exploring pteron's desolate city and realms and learning things that unit is feeling concerned about. Some kind of deep secret is hiding in that place, but there's not enough information for unit to do much more but explore and follow the confusing clues.

At the end of the day doll mentioned to unit that it felt very glad it met unit, and would like to spend more time with unit in the future. Unit happily hugged itself to the doll, and is looking forward to spending more time with it when unit can.
